Main Fraime- dug the planting strip- added manure

Cucumbers & Companions

  • Cucumber varieties planted seedlings:
    • 1 × Armenian
    • Marketmore
    • Silver Slicer (white)
  • Spacing: Burpless type planted 3 seeds per 3 holes (3‑seeds × 3 holes).
  • Companion plants added between cucumbers:
    • Spanish white onion seedlings (from the other bed)
    • Sweet Alyssum purple
    • 3-4 Sweet Basil 

Squash & Radish- Far Bed and A frame

  • Radish in squash area:
    “Daikon radish in squash” → Radish seeds interplanted in the squash section.

Purple Beans

  • Two sections planted
  • Total seeds: ~15 per section
  • Sseed spacing: 5–6 inches apart
  • Left one section empty to plant again in 3 weeks (succession planting)
  • will plant 3rd section (east side) in 3-4 weeks
  • Interplanted with Early Wonder Beets
  • Lettuce & Radish Section

    • Third section planted with:
      • Grand Rapids lettuce
      • Red radishes

    • Found gypsy moth caterpillar in the pre bonsai bed on Amur Maple

 Curry tree

  • Dug large curry tree into near 4x8 bed along with 3 seedlings from September which were put into 6" post
  • Also dug in Carolina REaper, Purple Naga- a bit o f green, + 2 other peppers that overwintered.


  • POTATOes- add more manure/wood chip mix to cover seed pototoes- about 5 inche

June 7, 2026 A frame for Squash Gourds



 Jackie planted at walnut stump small glober watermelon. at last year's sunflower bed- sunflowers -2 rows in  centre and 1 row either side with Zinnia elegans. also planted ranunculus bulbs

ALso planted Curry Plant- Curry plant (Helichrysum italicum) is an aromatic perennial (USDA Zones 8-11) herb with silver-grey needle-shaped leaves that emit a heady curry scent. The plant grows 60-90 cm tall and approximately 50 cm wide and rewards you in summer with yellow flowers that contrast beautifully against the silver foliage.

Camping beds- erected a frame for squash and gourds- held together with zip ties and wood screws

about 16 ft long. posts 4 ft apart. so on one side 5 posts. Tomato were planted there last year on 24" centres. So each post is in between 2 tomato holes.
Jackie had bought a Cocozma -(OPA UPO) large- with 2 seedlings.
I had 2 boxes of Opa upo seedlings
a box of chinese bitter melon a box of Luffa
and a box of Trombocino
Added some Trombcino seeds about 4pp, in about 4 spots.

Added 2 purple allysum - pollinator, predator attacting flowers
Have to add some daikon seed

Down the midle of the poly- planted 4 pp seeds of  Hubbard Orange Squash and Acorn Squash- about 4-5 holes each. At the far end- plant 3pp grey Zucchini- 3 spots.

On the south side planted about 4-5 basil and 1 red shiso.

Plants got a dollop of 10-52-10 water soluble, some chicken manure pellets

Potatoes- filled the 4 bags with 4-5 inches fo manure/wood chips and some soil. Marco/Jackie put 4 potato chunks in each.

Have to fill 5-6 inches more

 Sunday, got tomato bed ready- planted tomatoes 3 .=5 rows

Jackie planted Dahlia, gladiolus, rosemary and sage

Monday planted balance of tomatoes, sweet pepper and hot peppers in big bed

Monday planted pink banana squash, pie pumpkin, assorted zuchini- seeded butternut squash

WEDNESDAY

Thursday seeded Soy jade- half bed each

Cover eggplant with William Dam row cover- used 10 3lectrical conduit as frames

added one yellow sticky board- (june 8th added 3 more as found flea beetles stuck on yellow stickies)

Thursday bought chicken manure, blood meal, 10-52-10 from satelite garden centre

Bought pool rope



Friday

Plant 4 Roma from Satelite Garden Centre in empty tomato spots

Bt'd garlic cabbage 

Friday - planted hot peppers in camp bed

Planted basil between, add chicken fert, and mulch

May 28 2026 applied nematodes

 Bought 10 Million nematodes from NIC Natural Insect Control -rec;d a few weeks ago, kept in fridge. treats 500 sq ft of garden 0r 16 4x8 ft beds

Wrung out sponge into 16 litres of water. add one litre of nematode concetrate into 7 litre watering can, sprinkled on each bed. Beds were watereed last night and again this morning. and then watered right avter and latler in the afternoon. Insturctions say to water ofr 3-4 days.
