Aug 23/09 tasks potatoes, garlic jam

Dug last of the potatoes, some starting to rot, especially where potatoes seemed to be deeper in soil. Although the other day, the it seemed that when deeper there were more potatoes.

Turned over about 16 ft by 4 ft for the garlic bed.

Did a lot of weeding. rainy cloudy day.
Dug the white onions.
Trimmed some stray wisteria vines growing from the bottom of the trunk.

Rosemary made peach jam, raspberry jam (Metro had raspberries on sale 3 for $5.00, bought 12 boxes.)
Also made ginger peach jam. 1 ginger root, peeled and grated it. the leftover fibers put in tea strainer to allow more flavour in. Threw out the fibers after. One ginger root into one batch.

For fresh local fruit, try Cherry Avenue Farms in Vineland, just outside of Beamsville. Well organized. A pick your own place. Cherries have just finished, but apricots are in full swing with peaches just around the corner.

We were able to be some seconds to make jam. What a great way to preserve the fresh taste of some great fruit.
