Small watermelon found sept 17/13

5" melon sugar baby
Sweet tasting but does a small melon have less seeds?

Ground frost this morning Sept 17/13

Sept 17/13 630 am temperature 3 degrees
Predicted low of 5
Watered all the sensitive plants except tomato at composter
See what happens

New boxes and late tillage radish sept 15/13

Took apart 2 by 4,6,8 from office
Bought 2 2by8 $7 and one 2by6 $4.50
Ended up with
2 bed 4 by 8
4 beds 4 by 4
And one on the end 4 by 37"
Most of the board were not treated so bought untreated spruce

Added soil and sand

Seeded with tillage radish even though general seed salesman says they should go in by sept 1st

Also planted some of grandpas hosts day lily and bleeding heart along front tree line, Under birches cedars

Watermelon harvest September 4/13

Vines have turned 90%?dead
Plus two large fruit picked earlier

Not bad for basically 2 melon "hills"
Had seeded 3 hills but one died early
The watermelon vines don't spread as much as squash, the vines could have almost fit onto the plastic mulch.
The tomatoes all around kept encroaching on the watermelon
