added black soil to the beds at the new steps near the pine
split the variegated hosta that had been stuck there- Came from under the old deck
Added hostas to the primroses that had been transplanted there
also a ostrich fern from front of the house, and some violas from under the mulberry
Planted a canna, a castor bean, liatris
plus a zinnia and marigold that had been seeded
basil also
add black soil on top of the she-so basil-
bed here also contains evening primrose, and lilies and shasta daisy clump

July 6, 2013 Timming and Seeding- garden update
Trimmed mugho pine in pool and by kitchen
Also dwarf viburnum under kitchen
Trimmed Pink Spirea by pool shed down to ground
Trimmed Yew in pool area
Trimmed suckers off Caragana stump
Seeded one four foot bed with 4 rows of Soybeans- bulk barn14
Turned over 6-7 ft in big bed, rototilled, seed 2 rows of Sugar Snap Peas
Sabbath
Dug a few beets yesterday
Cut 1st seeding of Kale hard- so Parsnips can grow
Second cut of New Zealand spinach
Sugar snap peas -pretty well done, still a few flowers, but not producing much
Strawberries - only a few small ones- pretty well done
Lettuce is getting bitter
Pulled spring spinach from Kids tall bed
Zuchini squash -yellow-is about 4 inches long-
FLowers on cucumber
Tomato fruit on Glamour from garden centre
Squash front and back is doing well

Cleanup
trimmed back the bottom of the mugho pine, thinned out branches and cut back the top.
Removed old Tamarix juniper right down to the roots that had been getting ratty looking.
Cut back right to the ground the mahonia.
Trimmed the wisteria to single stem with 3 branches. Cut it back hard.
Trimmed Viburnum - only a bit, but trimmed off dead branches
Removed some Devil's walking sticks
touched up the Trumpet vine
Now what to do with this area? Maybe add more pachysandra?

April 26th dave Jarvis delivered 6 yd load topsoil to back by composter
APril 27th nice day
- filled up garden boxes with topsoil
- planted lettuce that was sown inside
- sowed romaine lettuce, rapini
- sowed corn at chimney
- planted 3 yews under locust in box (filled with topsoil)
- planted blue rug out front
- trimmed redbud, dead branches
- redbud by Austrian pine has middle with large section no flower buds?
- Sowed sunflower black all around
- Potted a dozen maple seedlings from under locust into 4” pots
- Sowed 1 zuchini in garden box under plastic (may 18 just barely up)
- Grackles making nest- some with eggs

April 15/06 warm 17 C. Wore shorts
John says to get chipper started use carbeurator cleaner. Spray into the carberaotr, (take off air filter to access) Alcohol is cold and help burn off carbon
Rosemary trimmed forsythia to take to work
Cut up last of the winter evergreen bouquet and put clippings under telephone pole bed.
Ran rototiller through dead sod and some of the sod from the pipe trench.
Rototilled one row (row 6) of garden, planted Spanish onion sets, planted dutch sets(100 bulb package)
Planted in same row, 1204 of lettuce, 2 kinds, and 809 of sprouts, kale, red cabbage.
Turned over row 2 of garden and balance of row 4. Dug out garlics from garden (all except row 1) planted in locust planter under the area that is under the shader and doesn’t get water.
Seeded ANchusa blue angel in Locust bed along with annual sweet pea (knee high). Left room at end for tomato or other vegetable.
At end of locust planter planted golden swiss chard. Placed glass bee frame and plastic over part of the chard.
In bean bed, planted Linaria Fairy Bouquet in front of yews and in front of the patio stones. Package contains ¼ gram =3,000-4,000 seeds
Looks like some of the new Zealand spinach is growing
From Telephone pole bed, removed birch tree, mulched bed, using some newspaper,
Planted birch by lodense hedge bed.
Seeded sunflowers, some in goutweed, some between mahonia and yucca, by ramp near hicks yew, under some of the trees in front of shed and behind, along the back and side of the shed, some in last year’s corn bed.
Watered seeds, rhubarb,
Bee boxes spinach is just starting to come up, Radish is coming up. No sign of carrots
Root box at back,
Sprayed some roundup on lawn quack grass, some beds, some driveway,
Sprayed killex summer formula on dandelions, clover in lawn, near flagstone, near fence, near white pine.

Fertilized 15-30-15 on seedlings
