June 8 2014 tasks

Planted single row about 6 ft of some yellow potatoes that Sachiko had that has sprouted to shoots about 9-10 inches long. Put under verandah for a few days, stems were starting to green up. Turned over soil, rototilled then emptied one side of the bed to shovel depth, placed the potatoes in the bottom, placed a bucket of sand around the potatoes and around the shoots to keep the shoots upright. This way when digging up, will know the right depth when you hit sand.
btw, in last years bed, there is a potato plant growing.

Sugar snap peas have pods on them about 1 1/2 inches long

in the bed with onions and leeks from last fall- transplanted 1 leek from the old 4 by 4 leek bed
and a couple of red onion sets from another bed.
Planted about 6 leeks from the indoor seeding- that's all that survived
Then found a pile of red onion seedlings en masse. transplanted some of them here and there to fill up the bed.

Took half wheelbarrow full of soil from behind shed and dumped it into the new bed between the honeysuckle and Reg's catalpa

cleaned up quite a bit as Adventurers had Investiture here today. Rain threatened all day. spat at bit around one, but most people stayed outside, kids swam. Temperature was coolish. some folks had jackets on

Rained harder starting around 4 pm

planted dwarf marigolds here and there
Seed striped sunflower and black sunflower in row along the two beds
Striped sunflower from parrot mix at bulk barn

Big garlic bed- - scapes are starting already

red poppy in full bloom
cerastium (snow-in-summer) starting to flower- only one spot of hit- have to hope it grow more

Aegopodium - goutweed is flowering
Euphorbia flowers finished= need to trim seed heads off
CHives in full bloom

transplanted more allysum here and there
transplanted Juliet Tomato seedlings from in front of shed to spots in other beds

Saw a few portulaca starting to sprout in harp bed
also a few Four O'clocks

Do we need some more umbrellas?Disposed of 4 - 2 that don't stay straight-always tilt and 2 that were very mouse eaten on the fabric.
