  • Basic Italian hardneck
  • Allium ophioscorodon
  • Large bulbs
  • Easy to peel purple cloves
  • Strong, spicy flavour
  • Allium ophioscorodon. Italian Hardneck garlic bulbs are the basic Italian hardneck. This Porcelain garlic produces large bulbs with easy-to-peel purple cloves with spicy, strong flavour. Plant it once and never buy garlic again! Harvest your own and keep the best looking cloves aside for fall planting every year. Garlic is easy to grow and productive in a small area. Plus it stores for months when properly cured so you can use it all winter until the next crop is ready to harvest. Our Italian hardneck garlic is grown right here in beautiful British Columbia.

3 Red Russian garlic

3 bulbs equaled 19 cloves

  • Hardneck
  • Withstands soggy soil
  • 4 to 8 cloves per bulb
  • Distinctive wrapper leaves
  • Allium ophioscorodon
  • Allium ophioscorodon. The distinctive wrapper leaves of these big bulbs are slightly purple. Red Russian garlic has the ability to withstand soggy winter soils better than any of the others. Expect between two and eight substantial cloves per bulb of this flavourful heirloom garlic variety. Separate the cloves and plant them with the pointed end up in September or October. Harvest the following July and follow our curing instructions to get the most out of storage. Once the plants are 2/3 to 3/4 withered above ground, stop watering for a few days. Then harvest by loosening the soil around each bulb and gently pulling on the stem. If the bulb does not lift easily, continue loosening the soil.

Yugoslavian garlic

3 bulbs equalled 17 cloves

  • Rocambole porcelain type
  • Heirloom
  • Grown in BC for decades
  • Hot, strong flavour
Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon. This classic porcelain rocambole type has been grown in British Columbia for decades. Yugoslavian Porcelain garlic has large bulbs with copper veins and some purple blotches. Expect nine to fourteen cloves per bulb, each with a solid, dark brown skin colour. The flavour is described as being hotly spicy at first, mellowing to a good, strong taste. This variety stores particularly well if it is cured properly. Plants are large and vigorous. Be sure to keep the garlic bed free from weeds leading up to harvest time. Apply a balanced organic fertilizer as soon as spring growth is underway.
