Squash bed #1

Back bed
Was rototilled last fall
A few weeds coming up
Turned over a strip down the middle with shovel

Laid down black plastic 10' wide
Planted 8 butternut squash Dam18 from 1204's
Alternated with 8 ichi-kiri squash

This way ichi-kiri and Hubbard shouldn't cross pollinate

West side if bed laid down 4ft poly
Planted black and stripe sunflower in existing holes

Ferted 10-52-10


Put some grass along edges to reshape bed






Re levelled front flagstone under redbud

Dig out trench at end of drain pipes
Leaves there were all black and smelly

Cherry tomato in asparagus

Put three kinds of cherry tomato from 7201 flat
3 plants per cell
Companion planting

Some tomato seedlings sprouted in bed already from last years tomato plants

Rapini and radish and sweet potato

In tall box seeded row of rapini 2012-
Seeded heavy - will see if any come up
Mainly to get some fresh seed

Planted 6 sweet potato - red

Seeded one row of tillage radish for daikon

Bed has a row of leeks

Cucumber planting

Two 1204 =8 clumps of 3-4 seedlings along one side of 18 ft bean structure

Added 1-2 tillage radish seed
Also added radish to zucchini plated yesterday

Climbing beans

Three sections
Fortex collected from westcoast18 about 24 seeds
Asparagus bean westcoast19 2 seeds 10" apart
Purple beans westcoast19 2 seeds 6" apart

Put plastic rolls across while bed with staples

Need to put netting

Zucchini May 29/19

Topped up vinyl side box with soil from row 1

Put shallow tench in centre
Spread paper shred on all except trench
Fertilized paper with 30-10-10 soluble
Wet paper down
Placed double layer of poly with staples
Planted 4 cells each of black beauty Zucchini
And 4 cells of gold Zucchini

Gobo burdock and Pak Choi

Made deep root box from old lumber
Will use this as a prototype
Should be able to remove screws to allow easier access

One row each of gobo #1 #2 and one row mixed unknown and partial #1
Three rows total
Package says thin to 2" apart when 2-4 leaves

2 rows between with Westcoast19 pak choi
Seeded lots - thin to 5-6 " after

Seeded a few radish also

May 28/19

Bought 2 paks each of Roma tomatoes and 2 of San marzano
One pack of black beauty eggplant
One pack of red sweet pepper

Planted them out tonight
Planted a half dozen basil from first seeding

Transplanted one 1204 of lobelia into 4 four inch square pots for the play house

Transplanted small assorted basil into 2 1/2" flats plus 3 petunias

Planted a bunch of fliers seedlings in thr rain this am- from seedling flat
Basket of gold
Lavatera
Zinnias
Planted in various locations


Planted 24 castor bean seedlings to various locations
Pulled some calendula daisy volunteers from hammock steps to various locations

Fertilized lawn along roadside where was missed previously - could see the difference in greenness- also scattered limestone along same area where ther was moss
Had scatter grass seed their last week k
